alt_space | Call for Exhibition Proposals 2027-2028

Arts on Douglas, a division of Atlantic Center for the Arts, is now accepting alt_space exhibition proposals for 2027–2028

Located within Arts on Douglas, the alt_space Gallery is dedicated to Florida artists exploring a range of contemporary and experimental approaches. Proposals may include conceptual art, site-specific installation, new media, digital media, video, sculpture, alternative processes, or other innovative practices.

The space provides emerging and established artists with an opportunity to engage the community through their exploration of art, process, materials, concepts, and methodology.

Each alt_space exhibition is presented for six weeks, with six exhibitions scheduled each year.

Eligibility

  • Florida artists age 18 and older may apply.
  • Individual and group exhibition proposals are welcome.
  • For group proposals, one person must submit the application on behalf of the group.
  • Applicants may not have current gallery representation in Volusia County.*

Submission Guidelines

Please include the following with your application:

  • Artwork Examples: Upload up to six high-quality JPG images. If the proposed work has not yet been created, submit a project proposal describing your plans for the space, along with sketches, prototypes, or examples when applicable.
  • Image Inventory: Upload a numbered inventory sheet corresponding to your images. Include the title, media, dimensions, and retail value (if applicable) for each work. Submit as a PDF or Word document.
  • CV/Biographical Statement: Upload an artist CV and/or biographical statement as a PDF or Word document.
  • Written Proposal: Upload a brief description of your exhibition idea or project that includes information about your exhibition theme, approximate number of works, materials used, installation method/requirements,  electrical/outlet needs, technical considerations, or any other pertinent information.
  • Video: If video is part of your proposal, you may provide a YouTube or Vimeo link in the application form.

Selection Process

All proposals will be reviewed by an anonymous panel of professional advisors and the Gallery Director.

Due to the volume of submissions, we cannot accept phone inquiries, unsolicited submissions by email or mail, or unscheduled gallery visits for portfolio reviews.

All applicants will be notified by email regarding the status of their proposal. If selected, the gallery will contact the artist(s) to discuss exhibition details, available dates, and scheduling.

Exclusivity 

If you exhibit your work with or are represented by another gallery, art space, or art center in Volusia County,  as a courtesy to your current representative, your submission will not be reviewed.
